Days 34 – 38
25 – 29 October 2017
I get into Landau early in the morning. It’s dark and cold, and I don’t have any service at all. Thank bananas that my girl, Calypso, was picking me up or else I would have been stuck for a while. I was so happy to be with someone that I know and also being able to have a real bed to myself for the first time in a long while.
I really feel the need to mention how bomb McDonald’s is here. It’s difficult being a vegetarian and finding good and filling food in a hurry. The veggie burgers here are way too good. I could easily see becoming addicted to them and going everyday. I would most likely end up on “My 400-Pound Life” because of the fries because my fat self always gets a large. That’s all I have to say about that because now I’m hungry. Go ahead, judge me.
I spent a few hours in Heidelberg on the second day and didn’t see as much as I would have liked to due to getting there late and wanting to be back in Landau at a decent hour. The day was great even though it was short. The best part of the day? I made friends with a really cute cat and named him Wilhelm. He was very friendly and liked a lot of belly rubs.
I stopped for a latte at Coffee Nerd. The name is what got me to go in and the coffee was actually pretty good. I spent too much of my limited time there and headed back out to go to the train station and see if I found anything cool on the way back. I didn’t find anything that really stood out but the scenery was very nice. I think there is more to see and do in Heidelberg but I just didn’t get to it. I got off at a wrong train station on the way back so my plan for getting to Landau at a reasonable hour was out the window. I did get back eventually so it was all good.
Drinking. I am never drinking to excess ever again in my life. I think I had a great drunken night but I most likely just made myself look like an idiot. I had the hangover from Hell the next day. Indian food for breakfast (13:00) made me feel better. Curry makes everything better.
Hangover day had a big party that night and I stayed sober. Yay for being responsible and learning from mistakes! I like listening to drunk people’s conversations. It is especially fantastic trying to converse with Germans who know very little English that were talking to me while drunk and high.
Castle day! Calypso took me to Berwartstien Castle for the day before I left for Nürnberg. The fooooooood! It was so tasty but we couldn’t take photos in the restaurant. We wondered around for a while and also saw sheep. We couldn’t pet them so that kind of bummed me out.
Thank you, Calypso, one of the best human beings ever, for showing me this beautiful part of the world! I am so beyond glad that I was lucky enough to become friends with such a beautiful and funny woman. The world is full of amazing people and when we connect with some of the best, it’s unlike anything else in the world. Friendship and gratifying experiences are everywhere and I hope more people open themselves up to those opportunities.
The journey from Neustadt to Nürnberg wasn’t the best experience but I can blame that on myself for not paying attention.
